California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed legislation that prohibits the use of handheld mobile phones while driving in the state. The fine is $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense.

The local heat is on

Everyone’s going local! Google now offers local Froogle search results on a map. so you can see what those stores are selling, without having to go there.

Couple new players in this field are Judy’s Book and TrueLocal

If you like google maps, try it mixed with craigslist to find your next home or apartment, and with gassbuddy to find cheap gas or see traffic and weather conditions. There’s also one working with imdb to search movies, and a ride finder. And here’s what they look like when you get there :)

Also, if you wanna do some armchair sightseeing, try some interesting google sattelite maps. Microsoft’s TerraServer also has its own famous places. Very similar results.

Yesterday Google unveiled its plans for Google Earth, with 3D buildings support! Today there is a new site up, Chicago Crime that combines police data with Google Maps to show crimes in the Chicago area.
